Sweet wooden love spoon for your cariad.

Lovespoons have been a traditional romantic gift in Wales for centuries. A young man would spend many hours carving a spoon for his sweetheart. The lucky girl's father would inspect the spoon to judge whether or not the suitor was good enough!

The tradition is now spreading quickly around the world as a special gift for weddings, anniversaries or just to say 'diolch' (thank you)

A Little About the Maker…

Paul Curtis is a mastercraftsman who created his first lovespoon in 1983 after learning about them from Gwyndaf Breese at St Fagan's National Museum of Wales. In 1985 he set up his own business creating lovespoons following the traditional method established in the 17th and 18th centuries. This is your chance to own a work of art and a piece of Wales.

When Paul makes a love spoon, the Welsh wood is hand selected and cut to a manageable size to allow the carving to begin. Once a rough outline of the design is made, the tedious task of carving each detailed symbol to the crisp level of quality that you know and cherish begins. One slip of the hand and the entire process starts again. Once he has hand carved the love-spoon it is sanded varying grades of sandpaper.
