Appearing in Welsh for the very first time – translated by Adam Pearce (known for his work on The Hobbit) this edition of Nineteen Eighty-Four presents George Orwell’s chilling vision of a world crushed beneath totalitarian rule.
Please note: Mil Naw Wyth Deg Pedwar is available in two formats – an affordable paperback as part of the Clasuron Byd series, and a premium hardback “Deluxe” edition. Both editions include the complete Welsh translation of Orwell’s novel, along with the appendix “Egwyddorion y Newyddiaith” (The Principles of Newspeak) written by Orwell himself.
The Deluxe hardback offers a number of exclusive enhancements not found in the paperback. These include illustrated title pages for each of the novel’s three parts, a new introduction by translator Adam Pearce, and a three-way Newspeak glossary available only in this edition. It is also presented in a larger format, with a more generous font size and the full, uncropped Rowynn Ellis cover artwork on the dust jacket.
George Orwell (1903–1950), born Eric Arthur Blair, was a journalist, poet, and essayist, but is remembered most as one of the twentieth century’s defining novelists. His writing is marked by sharp social insight and a fierce critique of authoritarianism, themes that continue to feel strikingly current. His classic novels Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four remain global bestsellers.
First released in 1948, Nineteen Eighty-Four stands as perhaps the most iconic dystopian novel ever written, introducing enduring concepts such as Big Brother, doublethink, the Thought Police, and the very idea of something being “Orwellian.”
