This is a vintage souvenir pin dish/trinket dish featuring Locomotive No. 4, "Edward Thomas", from the historic Talyllyn Railway in Mid Wales.
History: Built in 1921 by Kerr, Stuart and Company in Staffordshire, this narrow-gauge steam engine originally worked on the nearby Corris Railway. After the Corris Railway closed, the engine was purchased in 1951 by the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society—the world's first preserved heritage railway run by volunteers. It was named after Edward Thomas, a long-serving manager of the line.
The Talyllyn Railway directly inspired Rev. W. Awdry's fictional Skarloey Railway in the Railway Series (Thomas the Tank Engine). Locomotive No. 4, "Edward Thomas," was the basis for the character Peter Sam!

- Backstamp reads "Talyllyn Railway Company / 'Edward Thomas' Locomotive No. 4 Built 1921 / Towyn Merioneth" (using the historic spelling of Tywyn and the old county name Merionethshire).
