This is a foundational piece of Welsh literary criticism from the late Victorian era. Athrylith Ceiriog (The Genius of Ceiriog) was written by Elfed (the bardic name of Howell Elvet Lewis) and published in 1899.

This book is a deep dive into the work of John Ceiriog Hughes (commonly known as Ceiriog), who was arguably the most popular Welsh poet of the 19th century—often called the "Robert Burns of Wales." Elfed explores why Ceiriog’s poetry resonated so deeply with the Welsh people
