Caban Fewyrth Twm / Uncle Tom's Cabin - Antique / Victorian (Preloved)

What a treasure. A Welsh-language translation / version of Uncle Tom’s Cabin - one of the most influential anti-slavery novels in history.

It was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe and originally published in 1853. Her work is a major piece of abolitionist literature — depicting the horrors of slavery in the United States and influencing public opinion, especially among white audiences. This novel is considered to be instrumental in creating the attitudes which led to the American Civil war. It is said that when she was introduced to Abraham Lincoln he said "So this is the little woman who started this great war"

There is a discussion on the use of the language in the Welsh translations where an attempt is made to show the diglossia between the different languages (David Willis, 2016)

A rare chance to own part of Welsh and Black History.
