This novel is based on 'Canu Heledd', the Cyndrwyn family in Powys and its court in Pengwern near Shrewsbury. Cynddylan ap Cyndrwyn, Prince of Pengwern was killed by the English and his sister Heledd mourned his loss.

It was longing for her loved ones that made the author start this story in the Llansilin area, and her own concern for Wales and the Welsh language today.
