An exceptionally rare opportunity to own the complete 10-volume set of the 'Gwyddoniadur Cymreig' - which remains the largest paper publication in Welsh today.

This is not merely a reference work, but a cornerstone of Welsh national identity. Published by the legendary Thomas Gee, this collection remains one of the most significant literary achievements in the history of Wales. A must-have for any serious collector of Welsh history or antiquarian books.

The general editor was John Parry, Gee's brother in-law and lecturer at the College of Bala.

The project cost for the publishers was around £20,000 (equivalent to £2,600,000 in today's money)

  • The auction is for a complete set of 10 volumes
  • Thomas Gee, Denbigh First Edition started in 1858 and completed in 1879. All are first editions

  • Very heavy, and excellent quality; the complete set weighs almost 15kg. We welcome bids from overseas but please get in touch to confirm postage costs before bidding.

We are proud to offer this book from a notable local collection. Formerly held in the library of a Cynon Valley minister, it represents decades of dedicated collecting of Welsh literature.

Condition: good used condition: inside is in very good condition. The covers each have various scuffs, scrapes, age related marks, chips and dents from numerous curious readers from the last 160+ years. I've pictured the volumes most effected. Spine and binding is still strong and fully intact. All damages are aesthetic (and quite pleasing in my own opinion!) Church stamp and writing to each front page.
