A charming vintage brass snuff / tobacco box, embossed with the Welsh dragon and the word Cymru (Wales). Oval in form and pleasingly weighty in the hand, this piece has the warm patina and gentle surface wear that comes from years of use.
Boxes of this type were commonly used by miners and working men in Wales during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when snuff was widely carried underground as a smokeless alternative. The sturdy brass construction and compact shape would have made it practical for daily use in pockets or workwear.
The raised dragon emblem is crisply detailed, symbolising Welsh pride and identity, making this not only a functional object but also a small piece of social history.
